Entering Loch Ryan our first Scottish Loch |
To cope with the same speed of tide on the way out as we had entering Strangford Lough we had to leave Portaferry at 0315am! It proved to be quite a hairy experience in the dark. Not something I would have tried without GPS and a chart plotter. Again the waves at the entry to the estuary where quite formidable and David got back into the cockpit just in time before the boat really started to buck about. Most of the rest of the trip was under low cloud and rain. Once again the forecast wind never materialised and we motored all the way with a slight north easterly wind. The sun started to appear as we approached the Scottish coast and remained intermittently until our arrival in Stranraer.
On several occasions we saw flights of gannets in v-formation flying north just above the water. Unfortunately they always came out of the mist before I could get my camera. We should see a lot more tomorrow as we pass Ailsa Craig.
Stranraer is sunny as I write and we have just come back from coffee and carrot cake sitting outside a cafe.
