Day 28 Ullapool to Kinlochbervie

The Old Man of Stoer
Handa Island

Leaving Ullapool made us realise that we were really venturing into the wilder and sparsely populated parts of Scotland. This was particularly evident as we approached Loch Bervie. A limestone karst scenery stretched right down to the sea. We also passed Handa Island, owned by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and home to a wide variety of sea birds including puffins, razorbills, and guillemots

Kinlochbervie is the last bastion of safety before venturing around Cape Wrath. It has pontoons for leisure craft and a large fishing industry. It is served by the most northerly road along the west coast. We dined at an hotel overlooking the harbour with spectacular views in the most glorious sunshine.
