Day 33 - Lossiemouth to Inverness updated

Seals on the beach near Fort George

Wind at last, but with it a very lumpy sea. A short sharp swell that jars the boat. Leaving the sheltered Lossiemouth harbour we ran straight into the wind and a surprisingly rough sea for the wind conditions. After a short period of motoring we hoisted the genoa to steady the boat and give us some forward power and then as the wind backed we added the main  and were able to turn of the engine. A wind that started of as very gusty settled into a steady force 4 and we had and enjoyable sail.

Just off the coast from Fort George we saw a colony of seals lazing on the beach. Further along at a point renowned for dolphin watching the watchers were waiting but no dolphins.
Ever hopeful dolphin watchers

The Scottish Open was very visible and we ventured closer to take a look. The stands seemed rather empty and there were no crowds to be seen anywhere.

The Sottish Open at Castle Stuart

Inverness marina offered us a warm welcome, but after a lengthy walk to the marina office I find that the facilities described in the guides are still waiting to be built and in the meantime a couple of porta-cabins suffice.  I think we shall move on quickly to the Caledonian Marina basin.
