Day 10 Port St Mary to Ardglass Northern Ireland

After a very unpleasant night rocking too and fro the sun greeted us bright and early encouraging a quick departure to brave an adverse tide round the southern most tip of the Isle of Man called the Calf of Man and Chicken Rock Light. Needless to say we were motoring and fought a 4kt tide until clear of the island.

The trip was uneventful, except for an encounter with a cargo vessel going north into Belfast. The AIS showed that it would pass 0.6nm behind and this proved be exactly the case.

Ardglass has a small marina with a larger fishing harbour and a small additional harbour protected from the elements in all directions, but with a very tricky entrance only accessible at high tide. We found out that it is locally known as the "God Spot". The entrance to the marina has a very narrow channel that is only visible at the last minute requiring a fairly sharp left had turn.

We were advised the golf club would be the place to eat but found that last orders were at 5.45pm! Not a lot of alternative choice, so fish and chips on board.

The Golf Club's "defences"!
